Munich · October 9–11, 2026 — Making the freshness of competition-grade coffee measurable

In August 2026, YPAK became the official packaging partner (PACKAGING Partner) of the Alpine Roasting Championship 2026. The event takes place in Munich, Germany, from October 9 to 11, 2026: three days of competition, twelve European specialty roasters, and one publicly published dataset. Under the theme “WHO MAKES IT MEASURABLE,” the championship treats measurability as the core standard running through the competition, the equipment and the supply chain.

For a competition built on data, packaging is not a backdrop — it is a precondition of comparability. Twelve roasters, different machines and green-coffee lots can only be compared fairly if they share one sealing and freshness standard; otherwise flavour differences are attributed to the roast, not the packaging. This is why the organisers chose YPAK: not for a better-looking bag, but for a verifiable freshness capability.

What kind of event is this

  • Date & venue: October 9–11, 2026, Munich, Germany
  • Scale: 3 days of competition | 12 European specialty roasters | 1 publicly published dataset
  • Theme: WHO MAKES IT MEASURABLE — roasting results that stand up to data
  • Partner lineup: Giesen Roasting Solutions (Presenting Partner), Alrighty caretrade coffee (Presenting Partner), La Marzocco (espresso machines), BWT (water treatment), REHM & Co (green coffee), YPAK (packaging)

Why YPAK sponsors this championship

The difference between competition-grade coffee and everyday coffee is not the tasting notes — it is measurability: roast curves can be replayed, water has data, green coffee has batch records. But the freshness window between roasting and cupping has long lacked a quantifiable standard. This is exactly where YPAK meets the event’s theme: our packaging turns “freshness” from an adjective into a number that can be tested —

  • OTR (oxygen transmission rate) ≤ 5 cc/m²/day
  • WVTR (water vapour transmission rate) ≤ 0.5 g/m²/24h
  • WIPF one-way valve opening pressure tolerance ± 2 mbar

We sponsor this championship because we believe: when twelve roasters walk into the arena with their own understanding of “measurable,” packaging — the last guardian of flavour — must equally stand up to data.

What competition-grade packaging has to deliver

In a competition built on measurability, packaging must meet three conditions at once: seal performance that can be verified, recyclability after the event, and customisation at speed. This is what YPAK’s competition-grade solution delivers —

  • Mono-material (Mono-PE) recyclable structure: event pouches enter the recycling stream after use, aligned with the EU PPWR recyclability-by-design direction
  • PFAS-Free coating: food-contact safe, in line with the PFAS restriction in force since August 12, 2026
  • WIPF one-way valve + HP Indigo digital printing: sealing data verified by measurement; fast delivery for custom low-volume, multi-SKU event runs
  • GRS·PCR recycled material options: supporting closed-loop recycling and TC traceability

Follow the championship

During the event, we will bring on-site reports and updates on the participating roasters. The full lineup of twelve roasters will be announced soon — we will profile each of them and the packaging they compete with. Afterwards, we will read the published dataset and unpack what “competition-grade freshness” means in numbers. Stay tuned.

If you are evaluating packaging compliance and freshness data

Whether you are considering a competition-grade solution or your own brand’s PPWR transition, we would be glad to talk through the event page — our team replies within 24 hours.
